To perform the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) test using the MACHEREY-NAGEL 963029 reagent set, follow these steps:
1. Ensure you have the necessary accessories: NANOCOLOR® heating block and a piston pipette with tips.
2. Decomposition at 148 °C:
a. Open a test tube and hold it diagonally.
b. Slowly add 2.0 mL of the test sample to the contents of the test tube without mixing, so that two separate layers are formed.
c. xxxx the cap securely onto the test tube.
d. Hold the tube by the cap, place it into the safety bottle, and shake it (Caution: the test tube becomes hot).
e. Place the tube into the heating block.
f. After 2 hours, remove the test tube from the heating block.
g. After about 10 minutes (while the test tube is still warm), shake it once and allow it to cool to room temperature.
h. Clean the outside of the test tube and measure.
3. Short time COD at 160 °C:
a. Open a test tube and hold it diagonally.
b. Slowly add 2.0 mL of the test sample to the contents of the test tube without mixing, so that two separate layers are formed.
c. xxxx the cap securely onto the test tube.
d. Hold the tube by the cap, place it into the safety bottle, and shake it (Caution: the test tube becomes hot).
e. Place the tube into the heating block.
f. After 30 minutes, remove the test tube from the heating block.
g. After about 10 minutes (while the test tube is still warm), shake it once and allow it to cool to room temperature.
h. Clean the outside of the test tube and measure.
Note: The short time COD method is characterized by a higher digestion temperature and reduced reaction time compared to the decomposition at 148 °C. It is recommended to compare the results of the short time COD with the standard method periodically.
For measurement instructions specific to MACHEREY-NAGEL photometers, refer to the manual provided with the photometer. If using photometers from other manufacturers, check if they can measure round glass tubes and determine the appropriate factor for each instrument by measuring standard solutions.
For analytical quality control, you can use the NANOCONTROL COD 1500 (REF 92529) solution.
For disposal instructions, refer to the safety data sheet (SDS) provided with the reagent set. The SDS can be downloaded from www.mn-net.com/SDS.
Store the test kit in a cool and dry place, avoiding exposure to sunlight.
