To connect the CARVIN audio BX-1 Bass Preamp to your bass guitar and amplifier, follow these steps:
1. Connect your bass guitar to the BX-1 Bass Preamp using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable. Plug one end of the cable into the bass guitar's output jack and the other end into the INPUT JACK of the BX-1.
2. If your bass guitar has a high output or the incoming signal is too strong, you can use the -12dB ATTENUATION SWITCH to attenuate the input by 12dB. This helps prevent distortion. Toggle the switch to the up position to activate the attenuation.
3. Connect the BX-1 Bass Preamp to your amplifier using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable. Plug one end of the cable into the 1/4-INCH OUTPUT of the BX-1 and the other end into the input jack of your amplifier.
4. Adjust the INPUT GAIN control to set the sensitivity of the 1/4-inch inputs. Increase the gain if your bass guitar has low output, and decrease it for high output instruments or low volume situations.
5. Use the VOLUME control to adjust the overall output level of the preamp.
6. The BX-1 Bass Preamp also features an EFFECTS LOOP for connecting external effects processors. Connect the SEND jack to the input of your effects processor and the RETURN jack to the output of your effects processor. Adjust the level of the effects processor using its own controls.
7. If you want to send the bass signal to another device or a tuner, you can use the THRU/TUNER JACK. This output is unaffected by the MUTE switch and other functions of the BX-1.
8. Finally, connect the power supply included with the BX-1 to the DC IN jack to power the preamp. Alternatively, you can use a 9V battery for portable operation. Note that the preamp will not turn on until a 1/4-inch plug is inserted into the input. Leaving the preamp plugged in when not in use may drain the battery.
