To install the Heliatos RH/BH Solar Water Heating System, follow these steps:
1. Surface Preparation and PV Panel Location: Ensure that the surface you plan to use for installation is fairly flat. The panels can accommodate a base that is up to 1/4" uneven. If you are mounting the panels on a surface suitable for exterior deck screws, they are ready to install. If you require bigger bolts, you will need to enlarge the holes with a drill. The PV panel that powers the pumps should be installed in a location that receives the same sun as the water heating panels.
2. Panel Connection: If you have more than one panel, connect them to each other using the included compression unions. Apply sealant to the union and hand tighten the nuts on both sides. Once all the panels are connected, further tighten each nut by about 1 turn.
3. Connection Fittings: Use the included fittings or obtain them from a local home improvement center or plumbing supply. Thread a 3/8" compression union into the nuts on the two end panels. Slide a compression nut onto both tubes and insert a brass insert into the end of the PEX tubing. Push the tubes into the compression unions and tighten the compression nuts.
4. Secure Mounting: Securely tie down the panel array using appropriate mounting hardware. Ensure that all tabs are securely attached to the mounting system.
5. Insulation: Insulate the exposed fittings and pipes by surrounding each joint with a foam or fiberglass sleeve. Use aluminum adhesive tape to prevent rapid UV degradation if using plastic foam. Install a foam sleeve over every fitting between panels and at the ends of the panel array.
For the remaining installation steps (Heat Exchanger, Glycol Fill Valve, Expansion Tank), please refer to the instruction manual provided with the product. It is important to familiarize yourself with all three components before proceeding to ensure a clean plumbing installation.
