To remove the amplifier from the Definitive Technology CS8060HD Center Channel Speaker, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the speaker from any receiver or power amp and disconnect it from AC power at least 60 minutes prior to starting.
2. Gather the necessary tools: a Phillips head screwdriver, a flat head screwdriver, a small plastic cup for screws, a small or tack hammer, needle-nosed pliers (recommended), a digital camera (or pen and paper), and masking tape (optional).
3. Remove the port trim ring located on the back of the speaker by unscrewing and reserving the screws that hold it in place.
4. Remove the back plate amplifier by unscrewing the screws along the outer edge of the back panel. Drop the screws into the plastic cup to keep track of them.
5. Carefully remove the back panel from the cabinet, using the power inlet plug or binding posts for grip if necessary.
6. Use a flat-headed screwdriver to dislodge the gasket from the back panel if it sticks.
7. Take pictures or notes to maintain the orientation of the wires connected to the amp board posts and jumpers.
8. Mark the wires connected to the inside of the plate using masking tape or take digital photos for reference.
9. Disconnect the wires, using needle-nosed pliers for fast-on connectors and fingers for Molex connectors. Avoid putting torsional pressure on the tabs and remove using a lateral motion.
10. If there is a gasket between the plate and the enclosure, you can try to remove it or cut the grille around it.
11. Pop off the left and right side end caps using tension only.
12. Remove the shiny black plastic vanity plate along the entire front top edge of the speaker by carefully working it free with a flat item like a butter knife.
13. Loosen the grill twine and lower the grill sock to expose the active woofer.
14. Remove the protective metal grate if present by unscrewing it.
15. Remove the screws retaining the 8-inch woofer in the enclosure and carefully remove the subwoofer, disconnecting the wires from the internal power supply unit.
16. Remove the power supply unit by unscrewing the frame from the cabinet, leaving the PCB mounted to the frame.
Please note that it is important to send both the panel-amplifier and the separate Power Supply Unit (PSU) for successful service.
