Before applying 5 STAR FINISHES Microcement Floor, it is important to ensure that the surface is clean, cohesive, and free of contamination. The specific preparation steps depend on the type of surface you are working with. Here are some general guidelines:
1. Interior tiled floors: Check that all tiles are properly affixed to the substrate and there are no loose or broken tiles. Clean and scrub the tiles thoroughly. Apply a primer designed for tile over tile priming, such as Extreme Primer Plus, Mapei eco-prim, or any other suitable primer. Make sure the primer is strong enough for your application.
2. Countertops (new or old): For laminate, tile, or stone counters, check for any cracks or loose areas. Lightly sand the surface with 80 grit sandpaper and clean it with degreaser or toluene to remove any grease or wax. Apply one layer of Extreme Primer Plus and allow it to dry completely. Apply mesh over the entire surface and wrap it over any edges. If the counter is new, use thicker wood or cement board to prevent flexing at joints and brace long spans. Two layers of materials are recommended.
3. Shower floor (new or over tiles): If the floor is existing tiles, follow the same steps as for interior tiled floors. If it is a new build, ensure that the drain is installed flush after waterproofing and flood testing. Use a rapid-set polymer-modified hard pack mortar to set the floor and drain at the desired level. Apply a roll-on membrane like Ardex 8 + 9 as your waterproofing agent. Consult the manual for detailed instructions on shower floor installation.
4. Exterior concrete and garage floors: Remove any paint, sealers, or oil from the surface. Create a profile on smooth surfaces using chemical or mechanical means and clean vigorously to remove debris. Repair any cracks and profile the repairs. Depending on the surface condition, you may or may not need a primer. Consult the manual for specific instructions on exterior surface preparation.
Please note that these are general guidelines, and it is important to follow the instructions provided in the manual for your specific application.
