To adjust the sensitivity of the INTERMOTIVE Hawkeye Plus and Help Gard Plus Reverse Assistance System, please follow the steps below:
1. Open the control module cover using a small screwdriver.
2. Place a cart or other mobile object with a piece of ¾” plywood (18”x24”) in front of one of the sensors. The plywood is necessary to reflect the ultrasonic waves.
3. Position the cart at a distance of five (5') feet from the sensor.
4. Set the park brake, block the wheels, and place the transmission in reverse. The display panel should now show a blank reading.
5. Slowly turn the potentiometer counter-clockwise until the display shows a numerical reading of the distance between the cart and the sensor, and you hear a consistent audible sound.
6. Reset the module by either placing the vehicle in park or unplugging the module power connector. This step allows the module to recognize the new sensitivity adjustment.
7. Place the vehicle in reverse or reinstall the module power connector. Move the cart away from the vehicle and note the display readings. Then, move the cart forward and measure the distance, comparing it with the display reading.
8. If necessary, adjust the sensitivity further. Turning the potentiometer clockwise reduces the sensitivity, while turning it counter-clockwise increases the sensitivity. The potentiometer adjustment range is from 0 to 80 degrees.
9. Repeat the post-installation testing. If needed, readjust and retest.
10. Replace the cover on the back of the control module.
