A diaphragm seal is a device that is used to separate a pressure-measuring instrument from the process fluid while still transmitting pressure. It consists of a flexible diaphragm that separates the process fluid from a filling fluid. When there is a change in pressure at the process connection, the diaphragm deflects, displacing the filling fluid and transmitting the pressure change to the pressure instrument. This allows the pressure instrument to accurately measure the pressure of the process fluid without coming into direct contact with it. The diaphragm seal is filled with a pressure transfer fluid, which is selected based on the operating conditions and compatibility with the process fluid.
