To install the SHURJOINT 7705 Standard Flexible Grooved Coupling, please follow these steps:
1. Refer to page 50 of the instruction manual for preliminary steps 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
2. Place the coupling halves over the gasket, ensuring that the coupling keys are engaged into the grooves.
3. Insert the remaining bolt and apply the nuts hand tight. Make sure that the oval neck of the bolt engages into the bolt hole of the housing.
4. For couplings with sizes ranging from ¾" to 12" (Models 7705 and 7707) and 14" to 26" (Model 7707N), tighten the nuts alternately and equally until the bolt pads meet and make metal-to-metal contact. Then, tighten the nuts by another one quarter to one half turn to ensure the bolts and nuts are snug and secure. The use of a torque wrench is not required.
5. For large diameter couplings (28" to 42" Model 7707L), which consist of three to four housing segments, preassemble the segments loosely into two or three equal halves, depending on the size. Install these assemblies over the gasket in the same manner as described above.
6. Tighten the nuts alternately and equally until the bolt pads meet and make metal-to-metal contact. Then, tighten the nuts by another one quarter to one half turn to ensure the bolts and nuts are snug and secure. The use of a torque wrench is not required.
CAUTION: It is important to avoid uneven tightening of bolts and nuts, as this may cause the gasket to be pinched, resulting in an immediate or delayed leak. Additionally, never exceed the torque stated in the table on page 34 of the manual, as excessive tightening of nuts may cause a bolt or joint failure.
