To install the Ashcroft T400 Snap Action Switch for Temperature Control, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the covers are in place and the conduit openings are closed before working on the control.
2. If pressure may be applied to the thermal system, use a thermowell for installation. The thermowell provides protection against physical damage and corrosive effects of media flow. Select a thermowell material based on corrosion resistance requirements and process pressure.
3. Mounting T400 Series:
a. For direct-mounted controls, use the ½ NPT threaded adapter to attach the control directly or indirectly via a thermowell to the equipment to be controlled. When installing or removing the control, use the wrench flats or hex above the threads and avoid twisting the housing.
b. For remote-mounted controls, use union bushings to install the bulb into a thermowell or other ½ NPT threaded hole. Follow the instructions in the manual for non-pressure tight or pressure tight type union bushings.
4. Make the electrical connections:
a. Remove the cover of the T400 Series by unscrewing the two screws.
b. Wire the switch directly according to the circuit requirements. For controls with pilot lights, wire the lights according to the circuit diagram on the inside of the cover.
c. For 2-SPDT controls, wire directly to the front and rear switch according to circuit requirements. The leads on the rear switch are color-coded as follows: Common (White), Normally Closed (Red), Normally Open (Blue).
5. Use Teflon tape or other sealant on conduit, bushing, or plug threads to ensure the integrity of the enclosure.
6. After installation, replace the cover to ensure electrical safety and protect internal parts from the environment.
