To perform a measurement using the HANNA instruments HI727 Color of Water Colorimeter, follow these steps:
1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the colorimeter. The display will show "Add", "C.1" with "Press" blinking.
2. Fill one cuvette up to the 10 mL mark with deionized water and replace the cap. This is the blank. Insert the cuvette into the colorimeter and close the cap.
3. Press the ON/OFF button. When the display shows "Add", "C.2" with "Press" blinking, the colorimeter is zeroed.
4. Fill a second cuvette up to the 10 mL mark with unfiltered sample and replace the cap. This is the apparent color.
5. Insert the cuvette into the colorimeter and close the cap. Press the ON/OFF button. The instrument will display the value of the apparent color.
6. Remove the cuvette and press the ON/OFF button twice to restart the colorimeter.
7. Filter 50 mL of sample through a 0.45 μm membrane filter into a beaker.
8. After measuring the apparent color, rinse the cuvette three times with filtered sample and then fill it up to the 10 mL mark with the filtered sample. Replace the cap. This is the true color.
9. Follow the procedure above to re-zero the colorimeter using the blank cuvette.
10. Insert the cuvette into the colorimeter and close the cap. Press the ON/OFF button. The instrument will display the concentration in color units of the true color. The colorimeter will automatically turn off 2 minutes after reading.
Please note that it is important to ensure the sample does not contain any debris and that the cuvette is dry outside and free of fingerprints, oil, and dirt before placing it into the colorimeter. Additionally, shaking the cuvette can generate bubbles, which may affect the accuracy of the measurements. It is recommended to remove any bubbles by swirling or gently tapping the cuvette.
