To connect and set up the DYN-MS-20 Permanent Magnet Shaker, follow these steps:
1. Unpack and inspect the shaker: Check all components of the shaker for any defects or damages. If there is a defect, contact Dynalabs for assistance.
2. System components: The DYN-MS-20 includes the Electrodynamic Shaker, Power Adapter, Stinger Set, Signal Cable, R 1/8 Pneumatic Union, and User Manual.
3. Theory of Operation: The DYN-MS-20 is an electro-magnetic actuator that uses a moving coil and a stationary magnetic field produced by a permanent magnet for vibration generation.
4. Operation and Installation: Connect the shaker/amplifier cable to the shaker and amplifier. Connect the drive signal cable to the signal generator and the power cable of the amplifier. Turn on the amplifier by pushing the on/off button. Adjust the gain xxxx to increase the gain. To power down the shaker, turn off the gain xxxx .
5. External Signal Mode: Connect the DC power source and drive signal to the shaker power input and signal input, respectively. Start the external signal source. Adjust the gain of the amplifier by turning the gain xxxx clockwise.
6. Internal Signal Mode: The amplifier can generate a sine signal from 1Hz to 15 kHz. Connect the DC power source and drive signal to the shaker power input. Pull the gain xxxx out. Raise or lower the Sine Frequency Generator Switch to the desired frequency. Adjust the gain of the amplifier by turning the gain xxxx clockwise. The frequency of the generated sine signal will be visible on the LCD screen.
7. Shaker-Structure Interaction (Stingers): Stingers are thin rods used in modal shakers to transmit the shaker force to the test structure. The stingers are mounted on the shaker via a chuck. Choose a collet size as close to your stinger diameter as possible.
8. Shaker Alignment: Proper alignment of the shaker is important for modal testing. Adjust the trunnion for proper alignment. During the alignment process, the tip of the stinger can be removed to reduce free end deflection.
9. Shaker Mounting: The shaker can rest on its rubber isolators or be rigidly mounted. If necessary, the isolators can be removed, or hot glue can be used for mounting. Elastic bungee cords can also be used for lateral testing. Additional inertial weight can be attached to the bottom of the shaker using hot glue.
10. Power Requirements: The DYN-MS-20 has an integrated power amplifier powered by its power adapter. Ensure the replacement adapter has the correct output voltage and current ratings.
11. Cooling: The DYN-MS-20 does not require forced cooling. Air convection cooling is sufficient for the specified force levels.
12. Frequency Response: The manual provides a graph showing the input voltage normalized acceleration levels versus frequency of the shaker.
