To calibrate the SPYKER BCS25 Bag Spreader, follow these steps:
1. Measure a distance of 25 feet on a surface that will prevent particles from bouncing, such as grass or a large blanket, and mark a start and finish line.
2. Fill the bag approximately 3/4 full and weigh the spreader. Record this weight as the Initial Weight.
3. Set the calibration xxxx to the setting that corresponds to the material most similar to the one you are spreading.
4. Begin spreading the material while walking down the track at a speed of 3 MPH. Turn the crank one full rotation every other step.
5. Weigh the spreader again and record the weight as the Final Weight.
6. Measure the total width of the ground that the material covers. Subtract 4 feet from this value and record it as the Spread Width.
7. Calculate the actual application rate using the following formulas:
- Determine the weight of the material spread in pounds: Initial Weight - Final Weight = Weight of Material Spread.
- Find the area covered in square feet: Spread Width x 25 feet = Area Covered.
- Calculate the application rate in pounds per 1000 square feet: (Weight of Material Spread / Area Covered) x 1000 = Application Rate.
Compare the calculated application rate to the rate specified by the manufacturer. If the actual rate is lower, rerun the trial at a higher calibration setting. If the actual rate is higher, rerun the trial at a lower calibration setting. Continue the trial until the actual application rate matches the rate specified by the manufacturer. Record the calibration setting that corresponds to this rate and use it when spreading the material.
Please note that variations in material density, moisture, walking speed, cranking speed, and ground conditions can affect the application rate. The settings provided in the manual are intended as a guide, and Spyker makes no warranty regarding the uniformity of coverage obtained from these settings.
