To connect the Velleman K8000 Computer Interface Board to your computer, you will need to follow these steps:
1. Mount the components on the board according to the instructions provided in the separate part list. Pay special attention to the components marked with (!).
2. If you are building the card as an expansion card (Slave) to one already connected to the computer (Master), do not mount the components marked with S.
3. If desired, you can fit a voltage divider or filter to each analog input. This can be useful for monitoring higher input voltages or eliminating hum from the signal. The manual provides examples and formulas for calculating the values of the components needed for different purposes.
4. Cut out the desired numbers from the sticky labels provided to label the input/output and analog channels. This is important for proper identification when using multiple cards together.
5. Prior to testing the card with the computer, perform some "passive" tests. Connect the MAINS N and L connectors to the power supply voltage. No LEDs should light up. Measure the voltage on the testing +5V point to ensure the 5V supply voltage is present. Connect the test points 1 to 16, one by one, with the earth (GND) test pin. The LED from the respective channel should light up.
6. Connect the computer to the card using a standard cable. If no printer is to be connected, you can make a cable as shown in Figure 1.0 in the manual. The length of the cable has been tested up to 10m. If you use the printer feed-through connector and experience printing problems, use shorter cables.
7. If the card has been built as a slave unit, it must be connected via the three-pole connector J31 and through to the GNR, SCL, and SDA connections.
For further connection configurations and tests, refer to the user manual provided with the Velleman K8000 Computer Interface Board.
