To connect the Astrol Electronic AG Bat-Small Precision Computer Controlled Potentiostat to your computer, follow these steps:
1. Connect a power cord to the device and plug it into a power outlet with the appropriate voltage (230V/50Hz or 110V/60Hz AC).
2. Connect the RS422-Cable to one of the two DB9 connectors on the device. The other end of the RS422-Cable should be connected to the USB to RS422 adapter that was provided with the potentiostat.
3. Set the device bus address on the decimal number changer. You can choose a number from 0 to 7, as a maximum of 8 devices can be connected on the same bus.
4. Press the power switch on the potentiostat to turn it on. The device will start up and calibrate.
5. The potentiostat is now ready to communicate with your PC.
Note: The manual mentions that there are three common RS422 adapter devices on the market: PCI-Cards, USB, and RS232 adapters. The potentiostat comes with a USB to RS422 adapter. If you prefer to use a different adapter, make sure to check the pin-out of the adapter and use a compatible cable if necessary.
For the specific installation steps for the shipped USB adapter (MOXA Uport1130) on Windows 2000/XP, please refer to the manual on the driver CD. It provides detailed instructions on installing the driver software, connecting the USB adapter, and configuring it as a "4-Wire RS485" device.
Remember to set the COM-Port for the RS422 adapter correctly in the Windows device manager, as this will be used for communication with the potentiostat.
