Before applying Stove Bright High Temperature Paint, it is important to properly prepare the surface of your stove. Here are the steps you should follow:
1. Remove all rust: We recommend sandblasting, sanding, or grinding to completely remove any rust from the surface.
2. Scuff the surface: If your stove already has Stove Bright or a compatible paint, scuff the surface with 180 Grit Sand Paper or a medium coarse plastic paint pad to provide a profile for the new paint.
3. Remove contaminants: Use Lacquer Thinner, Toluene, or Acetone to remove oil, grease, graphite, or other hard-to-remove contaminants. Do not use Paint Thinner or Mineral Spirits as they leave a residue. Take precautions as these solvents are highly flammable and give off harmful vapors. In areas where solvents cannot be used, you can use Stove Bright Paint Prep in aerosol, Dirtex in aerosol, or Windex (regular).
4. Avoid certain products: Do not use products like Formula 409 or tack cloth, as they leave a residue that inhibits the adhesion qualities of Stove Bright High Temperature Paint.
By following these steps, you can ensure that the surface is properly prepared for the application of Stove Bright High Temperature Paint.
