To update the firmware and customize the battery program profile for the WS500 Alternator Regulator, follow these steps:
1. Download the configuration/firmware upgrade files from the Wakespeed website or receive them from your Wakespeed dealer.
2. Extract the downloaded .ZIP folder to your computer's desktop.
3. Ensure that your Windows computer has the necessary drivers to support the Wakespeed File Transfer Utility. If not, download the drivers from Wakespeed's Technical page.
4. Prepare the WS500 regulator by unscrewing the four retaining screws on the top of the regulator's lid and removing the lid.
5. Connect the Type B USB connector to the USB plug on the regulator's circuit board.
6. Run the configuration program by double-clicking the file labeled "Update.bat" in the extracted folder.
7. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the configuration window that opens on your desktop.
8. Press and hold the reset button on the regulator for five seconds, then release it.
9. Press any key on your computer's keyboard to start the firmware upgrade process.
10. The batch file window will upload the firmware to the regulator and verify the upload.
11. If the firmware upload is successful, press and release the regulator's reset button.
12. After a few seconds, press any key on your computer's keyboard to load the configuration file for your battery type.
13. The program will upload the configuration commands into the regulator's processor.
14. Once the new configuration is successfully loaded, the batch file window will indicate "Finished."
15. Disconnect the Type B USB connector from the regulator.
Note: Modifying the configuration program should be done with caution, as improper modifications can result in damage to the batteries, regulator, and alternator. Refer to the Wakespeed Communication and Configuration Guide for detailed instructions on modifying the configuration file.
