The KICKER KSS269 2-Way Component Speakers are designed for free-air applications and do not require a sealed enclosure for optimal performance. It is recommended to mount the speakers in your vehicle's factory locations or in a location with a semi-isolated rear chamber, such as the rear deck of a car behind the rear seats.
If you are replacing factory speakers in their original locations, you may need to use the included multipurpose adapter or modify it to fit your required xxxx patterns. You may also need to enlarge the speaker cut-outs and pre-drill new xxxx holes using a 7/64" (2.5mm) bit.
For custom mounting locations, it is important to ensure that the speaker will not interfere with trunk and door opening and closing mechanisms, and that the enclosed screws will not puncture the fuel tank, wiring, or other mechanical parts on the underside of the mounting surface. It is recommended to cycle the windows all the way down and up to check for any interference.
If the speaker cut-out locations require you to cut metal, avoid structural metal and braces. If the door body and panel cannot support the weight of the speaker, you can use an optional reinforcing ring (thin piece of wood or Medium Density Fiberboard) to be fastened or adhered to the door body. The multi-bracket adapter included with the speakers can help accommodate them in factory or custom locations, and you may need to modify the adapter to fit your specific vehicle or application.
Please refer to the owner's manual for more detailed instructions and illustrations on speaker mounting.
