1. Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is not running. Engage the parking brake and disengage any peripheral equipment.
2. Before removing the neutral lockout switch and adapter assembly, shut off the hydraulic reservoir to the pump and drain the hydraulic fluid from the pump case to a level below the servo control valve assembly.
3. Disassembly:
- Disconnect the wiring from the lockout switch.
- Loosen the hex set screws in the adapter and remove the neutral lockout switch from the adapter.
- Remove the neutral lockout adapter from the servo control valve assembly.
4. Neutral Lockout Switch Identification:
- Remove the switch from the adapter.
- Connect a test light or multimeter to the switch terminals.
- If the light is off when the ball in the end of the switch is not depressed but comes on when the ball is depressed, it is a normally open (N/O) switch.
- If the light is on when the ball is not depressed but goes off when the ball is depressed, it is a normally closed (N/C) switch.
5. Reassembly - Normally Closed (N/C) Neutral Lockout Switch:
- Install the adapter into the control assembly and torque it to 60-72 N·m (44-53 lbf·ft).
- Install the neutral lockout switch into the adapter.
- Apply high temperature water-resistant grease to the threads of the switch.
- xxxx the switch in slowly while moving the hydraulic control arm back and forth until "detent" action is detected. Back out the switch until the "detent" action is very slight.
- Mark the positions "A" and "B" on the switch and adapter.
- Back out the switch one half the distance between "B" and "A".
- Torque the hex socket head set screws to 3.2 to 3.8 N·m [28 to 34 lbf·in].
- Test the switch by moving the machine's hydrostatic control handle to the neutral position. The light should be on. Move the control handle slightly out of the neutral position, and the light should go off.
6. Reassembly - Normally Open (N/O) Neutral Lockout Switch:
- Follow the same steps as for the normally closed switch, but ensure the light comes on when the switch is screwed in and goes off when it is backed out.
7. Neutral Lockout - Adapter Identification:
- Check which size of neutral lockout adapter you are working with. There are two sizes: one for a 3/4" threaded switch and one for a 9/16" threaded switch.
- Ensure the replacement switch kit includes the appropriate adapter.
