To use the MACHEREY-NAGEL 931217 VISOCOLOR ECO Chlorine 6 Test Kit to measure free and total chlorine in water, follow these steps:
1. Rinse a test tube with the water sample. The pH value of the sample must be between pH 4 and 8.
2. Fill the test tube with 5 mL of the water sample.
3. Place the test tube in a photometer as a blank value and adjust it to zero.
4. Add 1 level measuring spoon of Cl2-1 reagent to the test tube. Close the test tube and shake it well for 20 seconds.
5. Clean the outside of the test tube and measure the absorbance after 1 minute. This measurement gives the concentration of free chlorine in the water sample.
6. If you also want to measure the total chlorine (only applicable for kit REF 931217), open the test tube again and add 3 drops of Cl2-2 reagent. Close the test tube and mix it.
7. Clean the outside of the test tube and measure the absorbance after 2 minutes. This measurement gives the concentration of total chlorine in the water sample.
8. The content of combined chlorine can be calculated as the difference between the total chlorine and free chlorine concentrations.
9. Rinse the test tubes thoroughly after use and seal them.
Please note that the temperature of the water sample should be between 10 and 50 °C for accurate results. Also, residues of Cl2-2 reagent can cause higher values for free chlorine, so make sure to rinse the test tubes thoroughly.
For further information on using the test kit and interpreting the results, refer to the manual provided with the kit or visit the MACHEREY-NAGEL website for more details.
