To properly terminate Cat5e unshielded cables using the Simply45 S45-1500 Pass-Through RJ45, follow these steps:
1. If using a strain relief/boot, insert the boot onto the cable as shown in the instructions.
2. Use the Adjustable Cable Stripper to strip back the cable jacket about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm). Be careful not to nick the wire insulation. If you accidentally nick the wire insulation, cut off the cable for all exposed wire pairs and re-strip it.
3. Trim off the "rip cord" at the cable jacket using the Simply45 Flush Cutter.
4. Separate each wire pair by untwisting them.
- Tip: You can use the wire straightening comb on top of the Adjustable Stripper for faster straightening and less finger fatigue.
5. Align the wires according to the Termination Pattern, either Type A or Type B. Hold the wire so that the White Orange and Orange wires are closest to you and put them in wire pattern order 1-8.
6. Use a flush cutter to trim the wires straight across so that all of the wires are the same length.
7. Hold the RJ45 plug upside down (strain relief clip facing down) and insert the wires into the back of the plug until they come out the front of the plug at least 1/2 inch (1.27 cm).
8. Push the plug as far down onto the cable as possible until it stops inside the plug. Take note of the wedge inside the plug that stops the cable.
- Tip: Ensure that the cable goes in as far as possible to minimize the exposed untwisted wires inside the plug.
9. If using a strain relief/boot, slide the boot up and into the back of the plug until the boot clip covers the top of the plug clip.
10. Insert the plug into the crimping socket on the Simply45 pass-through crimper, ensuring that the plug goes completely inside the crimping socket.
11. With one hand, firmly and continuously compress the crimper handles all the way down in one steady motion.
- Note: The Simply45 crimper is a ratcheted crimper and will not open until the crimping process is complete. If the crimper handles do not release, it means that you have not completed the crimping cycle. Squeeze the crimper handles further down until they release.
12. Remove the terminated RJ45 plug from the crimping socket.
13. Quickly inspect that all wires have been closely trimmed to the plug in the front.
- Note: If you notice wire trims that are not flush with the plug, you may need to change the trimming blade as it may have become dull. Please refer to the blade changing instructions in the manual.
By following these steps, you can properly terminate Cat5e unshielded cables using the Simply45 S45-1500 Pass-Through RJ45.
