To perform a colorimetric test for chloride ions using the MACHEREY-NAGEL Visocolor ECO Chloride Colorimetric Test Kit, follow these steps:
1. Pour a 5 mL water sample into each of the measuring glasses using the provided plastic syringe. Place one measuring glass on position A in the comparator. Only add the reagents to measuring glass B.
2. Add 10 drops of Cl-1 to measuring glass B. Seal the glass and mix.
3. Add 10 drops of Cl-2 to measuring glass B. Seal the glass and mix.
4. After 1 minute, open the glass and place it on position B in the comparator.
5. Slide the comparator until the colors match in the inspection hole on top. Check the measurement reading in the recess on the comparator reed. Mid-values can be estimated.
6. After use, rinse out both measuring glasses thoroughly and seal them.
Note: The method cannot be applied for the analysis of sea water.
If you need to measure chloride concentration up to 300 mg/L, follow these additional steps:
1. Pour a 1 mL water sample and 4 mL of distilled water into each of the measuring glasses.
2. Repeat the same procedure as described above.
3. Multiply the read-off value by 5 to obtain the chloride concentration (refer to the provided conversion table for specific values).
The reagents can also be used for photometric evaluation with the photometer PF-12 / PF-12Plus.
For disposal and safety information, please refer to the safety data sheet available for download on the MACHEREY-NAGEL website.
Please note that this method may not be suitable for the analysis of chloride in concrete. For special working instructions in that case, it is recommended to contact MACHEREY-NAGEL directly.
Remember to store the test kit in a cool and dry place, below 25°C.
