To perform a free chlorine test using the MACHEREY-NAGEL 931219 VISOCOLOR ECO Free Chlorine 6 Test Kit, follow these steps:
1. Requisite accessories: You will need test tubes with a diameter of 16 mm (REF 91680).
2. Rinse the test tube with the sample: Rinse the test tube several times with the sample. The pH value of the sample must be between pH 4 and 8.
3. Fill the test tube: Fill the test tube with 5 mL of the sample.
4. Set the blank value: Place the test tube in the photometer as a blank value and adjust it to zero.
5. Add Cl2-1 reagent: Add 1 level measuring spoon of Cl2-1 to the test tube. Close the test tube and shake it well for 20 seconds.
6. Clean the test tube: Clean the outside of the test tube to remove any residue.
7. Measure the free chlorine: Measure the free chlorine concentration after 1 minute.
If you also want to measure the total chlorine (only applicable for the 931217 kit):
8. Open the test tube: Open the test tube again.
9. Add Cl2-2 reagent: Add 3 drops of Cl2-2 to the test tube. Close the test tube and mix it.
10. Clean the test tube: Clean the outside of the test tube to remove any residue.
11. Measure the total chlorine: Measure the total chlorine concentration after 2 minutes.
The content of combined chlorine can be calculated as the difference between the total and free chlorine concentrations.
Please note that the reagents in the kit are also suitable for photometric evaluation. Refer to the manual for the MN photometer for further instructions. After use, rinse out the test tubes thoroughly and seal them. The method can also be applied for the analysis of sea water.
