To perform a colorimetric test for silica using the MACHEREY-NAGEL Visocolor ECO Silica Test Kit, follow these steps:
1. Pour a 5 mL water sample into each of the measuring glasses using the plastic syringe provided.
2. Place one measuring glass on position A in the comparator.
3. Add 5 drops of SiO2-1 reagent to the measuring glass on position B. Seal the glass and mix. Wait for 3 minutes.
4. Add 5 drops of SiO2-2 reagent to the measuring glass on position B. Seal the glass and mix. Wait for 1 minute.
5. Add 5 drops of SiO2-3 reagent to the measuring glass on position B. Seal the glass and mix.
6. Open the glass after 15 minutes and place it on position B in the comparator.
7. Slide the comparator until the colors in the inspection hole on top match. Check the measurement reading in the recess on the comparator reed. Mid-values can be estimated.
8. After use, rinse out both measuring glasses thoroughly and seal them.
Note: The reagents provided in the kit are also suitable for photometric evaluation. The method can also be applied for the analysis of sea water.
