To install the TEKONSHA N118839 T-One Trailer Wiring Connector Assembly, follow these steps:
1. Open the hatch and locate the trim panels covering the tail light mounting screws on both the driver's and passenger's sides. Remove the tail light mounting screws and set the tail lights aside.
2. Disconnect the vehicle wiring harness from both taillight sockets. Separate the connector, being careful not to break the locking tabs. Ensure that all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt.
3. Route the harness containing the yellow wire underneath the vehicle up through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body to the driver's side taillight pocket.
4. Plug the T-Connector harness containing the yellow wire between the vehicle's mating connectors on the driver's side.
5. Underneath the vehicle, find a suitable mounting point behind the rear bumper fascia on the driver's side. Mount the T-One Connector black box using the double-sided tape provided.
6. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. Alternatively, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and xxxx provided. Clean the area from dirt and rustproofing before securing the wire.
7. Route the harness containing the green wire underneath the vehicle up through the opening between the vehicle bumper and body to the passenger's side taillight pocket.
8. On the passenger's side, insert the T-One Connector end with the green wire between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock it into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
9. Disconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable. If not removed, remove the fuse from the yellow fuse holder provided. Cut the fuse holder wire, attach the ring terminal, and secure it to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow butt connector provided.
10. Route the black 12 ga. wire rearward along the frame rail, avoiding any hot pipes, heat shields, or the fuel tank.
11. Connect the other end of the black 12 ga. wire to the black power wire located on the T-Connector's black box using the yellow butt connector provided.
12. Reconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable and install the 15 amp fuse into the fuse holder from step 9.
13. Reinstall the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and any other items that were removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
14. Secure all loose wires and mount the Trailer Tow Harness in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box.
Please note that it is important to read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning the installation. Additionally, always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation.
