Cleaning and decontamination of the mattress should be done regularly to prevent the risk of infection. Here are the recommended cleaning instructions for the mattress covers:
1. Using a clean, moistened, single-use wipe, clean the mattress with mild detergent in warm water (40°C).
2. Rinse the mattress with cold, clean water and a clean cloth.
3. Dry off the mattress with paper towels, ensuring that all cleaned surfaces are allowed to fully dry before putting it back into use.
4. When reassembling the mattress, make sure that the internal foam is oriented correctly to the mattress cover.
If the mattress cover is heavily soiled or has been exposed to bodily fluids, follow your organization's decontamination procedure. Alternatively, you can follow these steps:
1. Mop up any fluid with paper towels.
2. Rinse the cover using cold, clean water.
3. Wipe down the cover with a 0.1% chlorine solution (1,000ppm) in cold water. If necessary, a 1% chlorine solution (10,000ppm) can be used instead.
4. Rinse the cover with cold, clean water using a clean cloth.
5. Dry off the cover with paper towels, ensuring that all cleaned surfaces are allowed to fully dry before putting it back into use.
6. When reassembling the mattress, make sure that the internal foam is oriented correctly to the mattress cover.
It is important to note that frequent or prolonged exposure to higher concentration disinfectant solutions may prematurely age the fabric cover of the mattress. Do not use alcohol, biological, or phenol-based cleaning solutions, and avoid using any abrasive compounds or cleaning pads.
For laundering the mattress cover, follow your organization's decontamination policy. Alternatively, you can follow these steps:
1. Remove the mattress cover.
2. Wash the cover at 65°C for not less than 10 minutes or 71°C for not less than 3 minutes. The maximum washing temperature is 95°C.
3. Heavily soiled items should also have a prewash/sluice cycle.
4. Allow the cover to fully dry before use.
Remember to ensure that the internal foam is oriented correctly to the mattress cover when reassembling.
