To properly perform a brake fluid exchange using the FLO-DYNAMICS 40400051 BrakeMate Jr. Plus Brake Fluid Exchange Machine, follow these steps:
1. Preparation:
- Ensure there is enough brake fluid in the new fluid tank to perform an exchange.
- Remove the master cylinder cap and attach the correct master cylinder adapter from the adapter kit to the master cylinder reservoir.
- Connect the yellow pressure hose to the master cylinder adapter.
- Confirm that the bleeder screws on the vehicle can be opened and are not seized up. Apply penetrating fluid if necessary. Attach the brake bleed boot at the end of the fluid removal line to the bleeder xxxx on the wheel being serviced. Support the hose using the attached hook to a convenient point on the underside of the vehicle to remove strain on the boot. The bleeder valves should be closed but ready to be opened.
- Connect the battery cables.
2. Performing an Exchange:
- Move the control panel switch to the "EXCHANGE" position.
- Use the pressure regulator to increase the pressure to the desired amount. A typical brake service should not require more than 12psi (refer to the manufacturer's recommendation).
- Slowly open the ball valve on the yellow pressure hose while checking for leaks around the master cylinder adapter.
- Slightly open the bleeder xxxx on the wheel being serviced until fluid begins to flow into the removal hose. Continue until the old dark brake fluid is removed. Close the bleed valve. Repeat this process for the remaining wheels, starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder reservoir and working progressively closer.
- If the fluid level in the new fluid tank runs low, the machine will indicate this with a tone and a warning indicator light. Turn the switch to the "OFF" position and fill the new fluid tank. Continue the exchange by switching the machine back to "EXCHANGE".
- When finished, close the bleeder xxxx and remove the tube from the fitting. Repeat the process on the remaining wheels, starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder reservoir and working progressively closer.
- After the brake flush is complete, turn the switch to "OFF".
- Press and hold the PRESSURE RELEASE BUTTON to relieve pressure.
- Close the ball valve on the yellow pressure hose.
- Disconnect the yellow hose from the master cylinder adapter.
3. Top Off / Remove Fluid:
- If required, the fluid level can be raised by inserting the open-ended adapter into the end of the yellow service fill hose to fill the reservoir.
- Make sure the ball valve is closed on the yellow service hose.
- Turn the switch to the "EXCHANGE" position. Adjust the regulator pressure to 5-10 psi.
- Slowly open the valve on the yellow service hose. Fill to the desired level and close the valve.
- Remove pressure, then remove the adapter.
- To remove fluid, use the same procedure as above, except use the removal hose to remove the fluid. Switch the machine to "REMOVE", place the open-ended hose into the reservoir, and slowly open the valve to remove fluid to the desired level. Close the valve and switch the machine to "OFF". Remove the adapter.
4. Disconnect:
- Ensure the machine is switched off and pressure is removed by pressing the PRESSURE RELEASE BUTTON.
- Disconnect the cables and hoses. Replace the master cylinder cap.
