To adjust the blade tension on the SIP 01597 18 Inches Metal Cutting Bandsaw, follow these steps:
1. Disconnect the bandsaw from the mains supply.
2. Raise the saw bow to a vertical position.
3. Loosen the blade tension handwheel by turning it anti-clockwise.
4. Remove the old blade from both wheels and slide it out of the blade guides.
5. Clean the wheels of any swarf or debris.
6. Place the new blade onto the wheels and between the blade guides.
7. Begin tensioning the blade by turning the blade tension handwheel clockwise.
8. Use the tension scale located underneath the wheel as a guide. For carbon blades, the blade should be tensioned at 20,000 psi.
9. Tension the blade until it reaches the desired tension, making sure not to over-tension it.
10. Once the blade is properly tensioned, re-adjust the blade guides and track the blade.
11. Close both wheel covers and lower the saw bow.
Note: It is important to properly tension the blade for the proper operation of the bandsaw. Over-tensioning the blade can warp and stretch it, while under-tensioning can cause the blade to slip on the wheel. Always release the blade tension at the end of each work day to prolong blade life.
