To remove and install or replace the alternator in the BMW Marine N54 Top Mount Single Precision Turbo Kit, follow these steps:
1. Switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery negative lead.
2. Remove the charge air duct.
3. Remove the alternator drive belt.
4. Note: To remove the alternator, you need to remove the air-conditioning compressor for the air conditioning system. However, do not draw off air conditioning refrigerant, detach refrigerant lines from A/C compressor, or remove the A/C compressor completely. Instead, remove the A/C compressor from the bracket and place it to one side.
5. Release the bolts of the bracket a few turns until it is loose. Do not remove the bracket.
6. Unlock the connector and remove it.
7. Remove the protective cap and release the nut underneath.
8. Remove the positive battery cable.
9. Release the screws and remove the bracket and alternator.
10. Assemble the engine.
