To connect your laptop to an external HDMI monitor using the TRIPP-LITE U442-DOCK17-GY docking station, follow these steps:
1. Connect the built-in USB Type-C cable (male) of the docking station to your laptop's USB Type-C port.
2. Use a user-supplied HDMI cable to connect the HDMI port on the docking station to the HDMI input on your external monitor. Please note that the USB-C source on your laptop must support DisplayPort Alt Mode.
3. Connect up to two USB peripheral devices, such as a keyboard, mouse, or flash drive, to the USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports on the docking station. These ports support data transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps and can also provide fast-charging output up to 5V 1.5A.
4. If you need to charge your laptop or a USB peripheral device, connect your laptop's power supply or a USB-C peripheral device to the USB PD Charging/Data port on the docking station. This port supports USB PD 3.0 charging up to 100W (20V 5A) and can also transfer data at 5 Gbps.
5. If you want to connect a 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD, follow the instructions provided in the manual. Open the top cover of the docking station, insert the drive diagonally downward into the SATA3 connector, and then replace the cover by aligning the grooves and turning it clockwise.
6. Once all the connections are made, your laptop should detect the external HDMI monitor, and you should be able to use it as an extended display or mirror your laptop's screen.
Please note that your laptop must support USB On-the-Go (OTG) for the USB peripheral devices to work with the docking station. Additionally, it is recommended to format the 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD as exFAT for better compatibility across different operating systems.
