To install the MICRO SWISS M3204 Direct Drive Extruder on your printer, follow these steps:
1. Gather the required tools: Phillips-Head Screwdriver, 3mm Allen wrench, 2mm Allen wrench, 1.5mm Allen wrench (included with kit), and Flush cutters.
2. Remove the filament from your original hotend and allow it to cool down completely.
3. Disassemble and remove the original print head.
4. Install your own MGN12 Linear Rail with the MGN12H Carriage Block to the top of the printer's X-axis aluminum extrusion using at least two M3 T-nuts and M3x8mm screws.
5. Turn off and unplug your printer for safety.
6. Detach the fan shroud from the extruder assembly by removing the two screws using a 2mm Allen wrench.
7. Attach the Extruder assembly to your MGN12 Carriage Block using the provided M3 x .5 x 6mm Flat Head Cap screws.
8. Clip the X-axis belt into the two slots at the bottom of the Linear Rail Adaptation Plate and tighten the X-axis belt.
9. Remove the silicone sock from the all-metal hotend. The hotend has already been preheated and the nozzle tightened to spec at the factory.
10. Insert the hotend assembly into the extruder, ensuring the thermal break is seated as deep as possible. Tighten the grub xxxx using a 1.5mm Allen wrench.
11. Install the heater cartridge and the thermistor, securing the thermistor wires in place using the Phillips head xxxx . Be careful not to overtighten the xxxx .
12. Install the silicone sock on the hotend.
13. Install the part cooling fan and the hotend cooling fan onto the fan shroud using the provided self-tapping screws.
14. Install the assembled fan shroud back on the extruder.
15. Install the filament guide bracket where the original Bowden extruder used to sit, using the provided M3 nuts and bolts.
16. Insert the filament guide tube into the Filament Guide Bracket and secure it using one of the provided retaining clips. Insert the other end of the filament guide tube into the top of the Extruder and secure it using another retaining clip.
17. Connect one end of the provided extension cable to the original E cable and the other end to the LDO stepper motor. Give the extension cable some slack near the stepper motor.
18. Use the provided zip ties to manage your cables neatly.
19. Adjust the gear tension by rotating the brass xxxx . For stiff filaments like PLA, PTEG, ABS, a good starting point is 1.75mm of exposed threads. For flexible filaments like TPU, loosen the xxxx until about 2.75mm of the threads are exposed.
20. Plug the power cable in and turn on the printer.
21. Update the E-steps to 400 in the printer settings by downloading the Esteps G-code, copying it onto your Micro SD card, and "printing" it using the printer menus.
22. Configure your slicer settings, setting the Retraction Distance to 1.0mm.
The installation is now complete. For additional information and troubleshooting, refer to the MICRO SWISS M3204 Direct Drive Extruder Instruction Manual.
