To properly install and use the Miller 496 Grip Anchorage Connector, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that you are trained and competent in using this equipment. Read and understand all instructions and regulations governing its use.
2. The Miller Grip Model #496 is designed for single-user fall protection applications, work positioning, and restraint. It is intended for use in concrete surfaces only, whether horizontal, vertical, or overhead/ceiling.
3. The device must be anchored in concrete substrate only. Do not use it in steel, wood, or any other substrate. The concrete must have a compressive strength of at least 3,000 PSI (20.7MPa). Do not anchor in uncured/wet concrete.
4. Before installation, ensure that the structure or substrate you are anchoring to is capable of supporting 5,000 lbs (22.2 kN) per user attached. If using multiple personal fall arrest systems, multiply the anchorage strength by the number of systems attached.
5. Drill a 3/4" diameter hole at least 3" deep into the concrete substrate using an industrial-grade rotary hammer drill with SDS bits. The hole must be straight, parallel, and free of peaks and valleys on the inner wall surfaces.
6. Insert the Miller Grip unit 3 inches deep into the hole. Set the device with a slight tug on the anchor loop. The Stop Sleeve must always be partially inserted into the hole.
7. Inspect the anchorage connector for damage each time you use it. If any components are damaged, cracked, broken, or deformed, do not use the device. Dispose of it properly.
8. Remove the device at the end of each day. Never leave it inserted in a hole overnight.
9. Always work directly under the anchor point to avoid swing-fall injuries. Check for obstructions below the work area to ensure a clear fall path and adequate fall clearance.
10. When using connecting devices with the Miller Grip Anchorage Connector, such as auto-locking snap hooks and carabiners, ensure they are fully closed and locked. Refer to the separate instructions supplied with the connecting device.
11. Regularly inspect and maintain the Miller Grip unit. Make sure it operates smoothly, cables are not kinked or damaged, metal components are not damaged, and spoons and conical end fittings operate smoothly without any metal burrs.
Remember to consult the Miller 496 Grip Anchorage Connector Instruction Manual for complete instructions and safety guidelines.
