The Instructables Pinch Sticks are designed to help you achieve accurate measurements in your projects. Here's how you can use them:
1. Determine the length you need: The pinch sticks can be adjusted to different lengths by extending or shortening the aluminum tubing. Measure the distance between the surfaces you want to measure or compare and adjust the pinch sticks accordingly.
2. Attach the pinch sticks: Once you have the desired length, use the threaded wing-nut or bolt to secure the two sticks together. This will ensure that they remain fixed in the required position during measurement.
3. Measure between internal surfaces: Place the pinch sticks between two internal surfaces that you want to measure. The sticks will provide a reference for accurate measurement.
4. Measure between opposite corners: If you want to compare the lengths of two opposite sides, place the pinch sticks diagonally across the corners. If the sides are of equal length, the measurement between the diagonals will also be the same. If the corner is not 90°, the measurements will differ.
5. Use the self-support bracket: If you need to measure above the surface, attach the acrylic insert and the self-support bracket. The bracket will rest on the project, allowing you to extend the measurement point beyond the tube.
6. Use the wooden stick version: If you need to measure below the current tube length, you can create shorter wooden sticks. Cut strips of wood and attach them to the pinch brackets. This will allow you to transfer measurements accurately.
Remember, the pinch sticks are versatile and can be adapted to different scenarios. You can experiment with different shapes and materials for the end inserts to suit your specific needs.
