Proper fitting and wearing of the ESAB EPR-X1 Powered Air Purifying Respirator System is crucial to ensure maximum protection. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Before use, inspect the Respiratory System for any damage and verify that it operates properly.
2. Check that the face seal is positioned properly to ensure a sufficient seal. This is important for the correct protection factor.
3. Connect the respiratory tube securely. If the tube is broken, it should be replaced.
4. Perform an air flow test before using the system. Use the included air flow test meter to verify that the system is providing an adequate volume of air. If the air flow is below the minimum level, do not use the system and replace the filter or battery.
5. Switch on the device by activating the ON/OFF button and hold for 3 seconds. The air flow will start at level 1 (~170L/min). Press the ON button again to increase the air flow to level 2 (~190L/min), and again for level 3 (~210L/min). Pressing the ON button once more will revert the air flow back to level 1. To switch off the device, press and hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds.
6. Make sure the blower unit is positioned in a way that minimizes the risk of the air-equipped welding helmet hose becoming caught up during use.
7. During use, continuously wear the Respiratory System and do not remove the helmet or turn off the air filter unit until outside the contaminated area. Removing the helmet or turning off the unit inside a contaminated area can result in a high concentration of carbon dioxide and a decrease in oxygen levels, providing little to no protection.
