To prepare the cable for installation with the LARSON ELECTRONICS CGB-C1D1-MCHL Explosion Proof Cable Gland, follow these steps:
1. Strip back the jacket armor of the cable to suit the equipment geometry.
2. If the cable has an inner jacket, cut it to the required length. If the inner jacket is too large for the Resin Dam, cut it off and replace it with electrical tape.
3. Expose the armor further by stripping back the cable jacket using the armor measure guide.
4. Cut the outer jacket to the required length, which is the groove in the hexagon to the rear of the outer nut. Note that if the outer jacket is at its maximum, the cut distance may need to be increased by up to 10%.
5. Wrap electrical tape around the tips of the cable cores to ensure they are together and to cover any sharp edges that could potentially tear the resin dam during installation.
6. Pass the cable through the gland until the armor makes contact with the end stop. If the insulated conductors cannot pass through the end stop, remove it so that the armor can make contact with the integral end stop within the entry component. Slide the outer nut back over the cable to have access to the armor spacer.
7. Hand tighten the outer nut to compress the grounding spring and secure the armor. Do not over tighten the outer nut. Remove the electrical tape from the cable core tips and separate the cable cores slightly to allow resin to flow between them.
8. Fill the gland resin tube with the required amount of sealing compound as per the sealing compound instructions.
9. Once the resin has cured, loosen the outer nut to ensure that the grounding spring is not gripping the cable. Slide the outer nut back over the cable to loosen the armor spacer from the entry component. xxxx the entry component into the enclosure and retighten the armor spacer when the entry component is fully tightened.
10. Finally, hold the cable central in the gland and tighten the outer nut to compress the grounding spring and secure the armor. Do not over tighten the outer nut. The entry component and outer nut do not have to close face-to-face.
