The installation instructions for the LARSON California Standard Twist-Lock 50-Amp Male Plug are as follows:
1. Ensure that the power is turned off before starting the installation.
2. Separate the housing from the wiring module by grasping the device firmly from the front. Press and hold the release button and twist the housing counterclockwise.
3. Loosen or remove the two cable clamp screws from the housing. Remove or keep the cable clamp insert, depending on the cable size (refer to the CABLE CLAMP STRAIN RELIEF CHART in the manual).
4. Feed the cable through the housing and strip 2-1/2" (63.5 mm) from the cord jacket, being careful not to cut the insulation on the conductors.
5. On 3-wire installations, strip all insulation from the conductors 3/4" (19.1 mm) as per the strip gauge molded on the back of the wiring module. On 4-wire installations, cut the grounding conductor to a length of 1-3/4" (44.5 mm) and strip the insulation 5/8" (15.9 mm). Strip the insulation on the other conductors 3/4" (19.1 mm) as per the strip gauge molded on the back of the wiring module.
6. Ensure that the stripped conductors are clean and of a bright copper color. If necessary, twist the strands of each stripped conductor tightly. Do not tin conductors.
7. Attach the grounding wire first by inserting the stripped conductor into the grounding wire well and tightening the terminal to 35 in-lb of torque using a 5/32" Allen wrench. Make sure the terminals tighten onto the conductors, not the insulation.
8. Align each stripped conductor to the marked wire well on the wiring module as per TABLE 1 in the manual. Insert each conductor and tighten each wiring terminal to 35 in-lb of torque using a 5/32" Allen wrench. Check for stray wire strands.
9. Reattach the wiring module to the housing by engaging the thread of the two parts. Press and hold the release button and turn the housing clockwise until completely tightened.
10. Alternately tighten the cord clamp screws to 20 in-lb (2.3 Nm).
11. If using the nut type strain relief, follow the separate instructions provided in the manual.
