To install the DEATSCH DW65c Fuel Pump 265lph Series with Install Kit in a Ford Focus, please follow the steps below:
1. Begin by referring to the factory manual or instructions to remove the fuel pump assembly from the vehicle. It is recommended to follow the factory manual for this process.
2. Gather the necessary tools shown in the picture provided in the installation guide. These tools will make the installation process easier.
3. Connect and solder the leads for the pump electrical connector to the leads on the pump assembly. Note that the wire color is reverse of the DW connector, where black is positive and red is negative.
4. Before disassembling the top of the assembly from the bucket and center, cut the leads going to the pump at the top and cut the red ground from the ground lead. Mark the terminals as positive and negative for later reference.
5. Disconnect the fuel level sender from the top and disconnect the ground harness. Set them aside and take a picture for routing reference.
6. Push the top down and remove the c-clip from the upright. Pull the top up to access the center section.
7. To remove the center section, the tabs must be broken. These tabs are marked in green in the guide. Use a thin screwdriver or pick placed between the stud and the tab, and lightly drive it with a hammer to crack the tab without fully separating it from the center section.
8. Remove the center section from the bucket by pulling up. It may require some force to separate.
9. Use a pick or screwdriver to remove the fuel sock and pull the pump out.
10. Prepare the DW65c fuel pump for installation. Make sure all three O-rings are installed on the pump.
11. Remove the diaphragm from the base of the bucket.
12. Install the clamp into the pump cage.
13. Install the DW65c fuel pump and tighten the clamp. Only apply a minimum amount of torque.
14. Solder the electrical connector leads to the top of the assembly. Attach the cut ground wire to the NEGATIVE side of the pump lead (black).
15. Reinstall the center section into the bucket. Note that it will not click in place. Reinstall the top and c-clip. Plug in the fuel pump connector and reinstall the fuel level sender. Plug the connector into the top.
16. Reinstall the assembly into the fuel tank. Attach a length of hose to the outlet of the pump assembly, allowing it to drain into a fuel-safe container. Prime the fuel pump assembly.
17. Cycle the key to the on position as many times as required to prime the pump assembly and evacuate the air introduced during the pump installation process.
18. Finally, attach the supply line to the outlet of the pump assembly.
Please note that this installation guide is intended to aid in the installation process. It is recommended to refer to the factory manual or instructions for specific details and to ensure proper installation.
