To properly install the SonicWall 1RK54-118 Network Security Appliance in a rack mount cabinet, please follow these guidelines:
1. The appliance is designed to be mounted in a standard 19-inch rack mount cabinet.
2. Use the mounting hardware recommended by the rack manufacturer and ensure that the rack is adequate for the application.
3. Ensure that no water or excessive moisture can enter the unit.
4. Allow unrestricted airflow around the unit and through the vents on the side of the unit. A minimum of 1 inch (25.44mm) clearance is recommended.
5. Route cables away from power lines, fluorescent lighting fixtures, and sources of noise such as radios, transmitters, and broadband amplifiers.
6. Install the appliance in a location away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. A maximum ambient temperature of 104º F (40º C) is recommended.
7. If installing in a closed or multi-rack assembly, consider the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment, which may be greater than the room ambient.
8. Mount the SonicWall appliance evenly in the rack to prevent a hazardous condition caused by uneven mechanical loading.
9. Use four mounting screws, compatible with the rack design, and hand-tighten them to ensure secure installation. Choose a mounting location where all four mounting holes line up with those of the mounting bars of the 19-inch rack mount cabinet.
10. Ensure that a suitably rated and approved branch circuit breaker is provided as part of the building installation, following local code.
11. Consider the equipment's nameplate ratings when connecting it to the supply circuit to avoid overloading.
12. Ground the equipment properly. Connect the power cord to a socket or outlet with an earthing connection. Maintain reliable grounding of rack-mounted equipment, paying attention to power supply connections such as power strips.
13. Verify that the included power cord(s) are rated and approved for use in your location before using them.
14. For European Union (CE) power cord rating, use a certified power supply cord not lighter than light PVC sheathed flexible cord according to IEC 60227, designation, or H05 VV-F or H05 VVH2-F2, and rated for at least 3G 0.75 mm².
15. If the product is rack-installed and GS-Marked, it is not intended for use at workplaces with visual display units, according to §2 of the German ordinance. Avoid placing the device in the direct field of view to prevent reflections at visual display workplaces.
16. This product is intended for use in a restricted access area and should not be installed in a home or public area accessible to the general population. When installed in schools, it must be in a secure location accessible only by trained personnel.
17. Only a skilled person trained in repair and maintenance of information technology and computer equipment can install or replace modules. Only modules provided by SonicWall are authorized for use. If any other servicing is required, the product must be returned to SonicWall Inc.
18. Thumbscrews should be tightened with a tool after both installation and subsequent access to the rear of the product.
19. Before replacing the fan unit, carefully read and follow the instructions provided with the unit. Be aware of potential hazards from the fan.
20. If a second power supply is installed for redundant power, both power cords must be removed to disconnect power from the unit. Never remove or install a power supply with the power cord attached to it.
21. When using a Fiber Optic Small-Form Pluggable (SFP) module, ensure it is IEC 60825 certified and a Class 1 Laser Product.
22. The appliance is suitable for installation in an Information Technology Room in accordance with Article 645 of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 75.
