Installation of the KODLin Rear LED Install Kit KUS11500 for Harley-Davidson M8 Softails involves the following steps:
1. Begin by removing the right side cover and disconnecting the negative battery cable. Remove the seat as well.
2. Unplug the two left and right turn signal harness connectors, as well as the taillight/license harness connector if it is being used.
3. Before removing the rear fender, make sure to remove all zip ties or harness ties that may be securing it.
4. Loosen the two fender strut mounting bolts on each side.
5. Carefully remove the rear fender and place it on a protective surface to prevent scratching.
6. Remove the fender struts and follow the instructions provided with the rear LEDs to install them correctly.
To complete the installation:
1. Determine the length of wire required for the LED installation and trim the LED wiring and install kit wiring accordingly. The longer wire group, channel 2, should be routed to the left side of the fender.
2. Trim approximately ¼” of insulation from the wire tips and install the wire through the center of the posi-lock xxxx -on end piece. Make sure no bare wire is visible past the outer edge of the posi-lock.
3. Wrap or dress the wires as needed and reinstall the fender strut on both sides.
4. Reinstall the rear fender assembly and connect all the connectors. Ensure that the wire routing is free from any moving parts and that there is enough length to plug back into the main harness.
5. Set the Dip Switches on the LED install kit to the "ON" or "P" setting. For HD Can-Bus, settings K-P usually work well. You can set different Ohm value settings for Dip Switches 1-4 (channel 1) and Dip Switches 5-8 (channel 2) if desired.
6. Connect the battery and test to ensure there are no hyper flashing or DTC error codes. If any issues arise, increase the Ohm value with the Dip Switches and test again until the issues are resolved. Remember to clear any DTC codes when finished.
7. Finally, verify that all bolts are properly torqued and enjoy your ride.
