To connect the Applied Motion Products STM23 24 Ethernet Integrated Motor to your computer, you will need the following equipment: a personal computer running Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT, XP, Vista or 7 (32 or 64 bit), a CAT5 network cable, and the ST Configurator™ software (available at www.applied-motion.com/products/software).
Here are the steps to connect the motor to your computer:
1. Download and install the ST Configurator™ software on your computer.
2. Configure your computer to use IP address 10.10.10.11 if you intend to connect the drive directly to your PC. If you plan to connect the drive to a local area network (LAN), please consult the appropriate hardware manual for instructions.
3. On the STM drive, select switch position 0, which will assign IP address 10.10.10.10. Refer to the hardware manual for further details on selecting IP addresses for the drive and PC.
4. Launch the ST Configurator™ software by clicking: Start / All Programs / Applied Motion Products / ST Configurator.
5. Wire the drive to the DC power source, but do not apply power yet. The STM drive accepts DC voltages from 12-70V. If using an external fuse, it is recommended to use a 4 amp fast-acting fuse (5A for STM24). Refer to the appropriate hardware manual for more information about power supply and fuse selection. Also, connect I/O if required by your application. The hardware manual provides more information about wiring I/O to the STM drive.
6. Apply power to the drive. The drive model and firmware revision should be automatically displayed in the ST Configurator™ software.
7. Follow the configuration instructions in the ST Configurator™ help screens. The software allows you to set up your drive to operate in different modes, such as pulse & direction, velocity (oscillator), streaming commands (SCL), and Q programming mode.
8. The ST Configurator™ software includes a self-test option (under the Drive menu) to verify that the STM and power supply are correctly wired and configured.
