Sure! Here are the step-by-step instructions for installing the Go Power! Eclipse Solar Kit on your RV:
1. Plan your solar system setup: Before starting the installation, layout your solar system on paper and identify the key components and connections. Determine the locations for the solar panels, solar charge controller, and battery bank.
2. Placement of solar panels: Remove the solar panels from their boxes and plan the layout on your RV rooftop. Position the panels as close together as possible and ensure they are at least 3 feet away from the front of the RV to reduce wind load. Avoid shading from obstacles like air conditioners. Make sure there is enough room to access the panels for future inspection and maintenance.
3. Mounting the solar panels: Attach the mounting feet to each solar panel using the provided bolts and nuts. Install all 4 mounting feet securely on the outer holes of the panel frame. Choose a location on the RV roof where the mounting surface is at least 1/2" thick and strong enough to support the panels. Use sealant under and around each mounting foot to ensure a watertight installation.
4. Locating the solar charge controller: Decide where to mount the GP-RVC-30-MPPT solar charge controller inside your RV. It should be mounted vertically in an indoor location inside a weatherproof enclosure. Ideally, it should be easily visible for monitoring system operation. Ensure the location has access to the cable ends from the solar panels and the battery compartment.
5. Electrical connections: Connect the solar panels in either series or parallel configuration, depending on your system requirements. Follow the instructions in the manual for the correct wiring diagram. Use cable clamps or tie wraps to secure the MC4 extension cables along the RV roof and interior route to the solar charge controller. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
6. Installing the 30A fuse and fuse holder: Cut the positive battery cable from the solar charge controller to the planned lengths. Strip the fuse holder cable and positive cable from the solar charge controller, then insert them into a butt splice. Crimp the butt splice fully and use heat shrink to cover it. Repeat the process for the other fuse holder cable and battery bank connection. Install the 30A fuse into the fuse holder.
7. Connecting the solar charge controller to the battery bank: Clean the battery terminals and crimp ring terminals onto the positive and negative cables. Attach the negative (black) ring terminal to the battery bank and the positive (red) ring terminal to the battery bank. Check all electrical connections and apply a protective coating to the battery terminals.
8. Initial connection and operating: Check all electrical connections and ensure all cables are securely fastened. Install the fuse into the fuse holder and remove the opaque material from the solar panels. Follow the solar charge controller user manual for the specific operating steps.
9. Maintenance: Inspect all components and connections annually for safe electrical and mechanical connections. Clean the solar panels monthly using water and a soft sponge or cloth. Check for any cracks, missing or broken hardware, and replace sealant areas as necessary.
Please note that these instructions are a summary and it is important to refer to the complete user manual provided with the Go Power! Eclipse Solar Kit for detailed installation guidelines and safety precautions.
