To place a call on the Polycom VVX 500 IP Desk Phone, you have several options:
1. Pick up the handset, press the speakerphone button, or press the headset button. Then, enter the phone number using the keypad and press the "Dial" or "Enter" button.
2. Alternatively, you can enter the phone number using the keypad and then pick up the handset, press the speakerphone button, or press the headset button to initiate the call.
3. From the Lines screen, press the Line key corresponding to the line you want to use, enter the phone number using the keypad, and then press the "Dial" or "Enter" button.
4. If you have set up favorites on the Home screen, you can select a favorite contact and initiate the call from there.
5. You can also select a contact from the Recent Calls or Contact Directory screens and initiate the call from there.
Remember, you can only have one active call in progress on your phone.
