To properly apply the ZOLL Pedi-Padz Solid Gel Multi-Function electrodes on a pediatric patient, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the patient's skin is clean and dry. Remove any debris or ointments with water and mild soap if necessary. Wipe off excess moisture or diaphoresis with a dry cloth.
2. Open the electrode packaging only when you are ready to use them. Periodically inspect the packaging for integrity and check the expiration date.
3. Attach the electrodes to the connector of a ZOLL Multi-Function Cable.
4. Apply one edge of the pad securely to the patient's skin. Then, "roll" the pad smoothly from that edge to the other, making sure not to trap any pockets of air between the gel and the skin.
5. Connect the electrodes to the machine cable.
6. If demand pacing is required, connect the ECG leads.
It is important to ensure good adherence of the electrodes to the skin and avoid air pockets, as poor adherence and air under the electrodes can lead to the possibility of arcing and skin burns. Always apply the back electrode first, and be cautious when maneuvering the patient to avoid lifting the front electrode, which could also lead to arcing and skin burns.
Please note that these electrodes are recommended for pediatric patients less than 8 years of age or weighing less than 55lbs (25kg). For patients over 25kg, adult electrodes are recommended. Do not delay therapy to determine the actual weight of the patient during an emergency.
