Before applying the ZOLL Stat-Padz Multi-Function CPR Electrode, it is important to prepare the patient's skin properly. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Remove excess chest hair: If there is excessive chest hair, it is recommended to clip it to maximize gel-to-skin contact. Shaving is not recommended as it can leave tiny microabrasions that may cause patient discomfort during pacing.
2. Ensure clean and dry skin: Make sure the skin under the electrode is clean and dry. Remove any debris, ointments, or skin preps with water and mild soap if necessary. Wipe off any excess moisture or diaphoresis with a dry cloth.
