Before applying the ZOLL Pro-Padz Cardiology Specialty Gel Electrode, it is important to prepare the skin properly. Here are the instructions provided in the manual:
1. Remove excess chest hair: If necessary, clip the chest hair to maximize gel-to-skin contact. Clipping is recommended over shaving, as shaving can leave tiny microabrasions that may lead to patient discomfort during pacing.
2. Ensure clean and dry skin: Make sure the skin under the electrode is clean and dry. Remove any debris, ointments, skin preps, etc. with water (and mild soap if needed). Wipe off excess moisture or diaphoresis with a dry cloth.
