To update the firmware on your FREE THE TONE Flight Time Digital Delay, please follow the steps outlined in the instruction manual provided by the manufacturer. Here is a complete guide on how to update the firmware:
1. Confirm the Firmware Version:
- Turn on the power to the FLIGHT TIME.
- Look at the 7-segment LEDs on the top panel and note the version information shown just after powering up.
- If the version number of the firmware to be downloaded from the Free The Tone website is larger than the one you saw on your FLIGHT TIME’s display, proceed with the update steps.
2. Prepare your Computer and MIDI Interface:
- Prepare a PC (Windows) or Mac (Macintosh) computer and a MIDI interface.
- Connect the computer and the MIDI interface.
- Download the MIDI interface driver and make data transmission ready. Please refer to the operation manual of your MIDI interface for setup procedures.
3. Download the Latest Firmware:
- Visit the Free The Tone website (http://www.freethetone.com/support/) and download the latest firmware file for your FLIGHT TIME model.
- Unzip the downloaded firmware file and note the name of the folder where it is saved.
4. Download and Install MIDI Software:
For Mac Computer:
- Download the freeware "SysEx Librarian" from http://snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/ and save it in any folder.
- Unzip the downloaded ZIP file and install it.
- Start SysEx Librarian and configure it by selecting the MIDI interface to be used.
For Windows Computer:
- Download the shareware "SendSx" from http://www.bome.com/products/sendsx and save it in any folder.
- Unzip the downloaded ZIP file and install it.
- Start SendSx and configure it by selecting the MIDI interface to be used.
5. Connecting FLIGHT TIME and MIDI Interface:
- Connect the FLIGHT TIME's MIDI IN terminal to the MIDI interface's MIDI OUT terminal.
- While holding down both the "INC/+" and "DEC/-" switches on the FLIGHT TIME, turn on the power to it.
- After showing the version number, the display indicates "0000". The FLIGHT TIME is now ready to receive the firmware update data.
6. Data Transmission:
- Follow the instructions specific to your MIDI software:
- For SysEx Librarian (Mac): Click the "+" or "Add..." button, select the firmware file, and click "OK". Then click the "Play" button to start data transmission.
- For SendSx (Windows): Select "Open" from the "File" menu, select the firmware file, and click "Send (F4)" to start data transmission.
- The FLIGHT TIME's display will start counting up from "0000". Data transmission will take approximately 8-10 minutes.
- IMPORTANT: Do not turn off the power to the FLIGHT TIME during data transmission or initializing.
7. Firmware Update Completion:
- When the FLIGHT TIME's display counts up to "0100" and then shows "INST", the unit will automatically initialize itself.
- After showing the version number and rebooting, the firmware update is completed.
- The receiving MIDI channel will be reset to its default OMNI mode. Reconfigure the MIDI channel if required.
- Presets are not affected by the firmware update, so you do not need to reconfigure them.
