To install the Oval XL Hatch Kit on your Ocean Kayak, please follow the instructions provided in the manual. Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Start by marking a line around the top of the center oval hatch, ¾" to the inside of the hatch edge.
2. Use a drill with a ¼" bit to drill holes next to each other just inside the marked line. Connect the holes to form one large hole.
3. Use a jigsaw to cut out the hatch following the marked line. Smooth down the edge of the hatch using a Sure Form shaver or small rasp.
4. Drill out the four dimple marks around the perimeter of the hatch.
5. Install the Hatch Cut Trimlok by pushing the open side of the Trimlok down onto the hatch ridge, starting with the Male end. Work your way around the hatch.
6. Line up the female end of the Trimlok with the tube on the Male end. Cut the female end ¼" longer from where it lines up with the tube.
7. Apply sealant adhesive to the tube on the male end and insert it into the female end. Push them down onto the hatch rim to secure the Trimlok.
8. Insert a 10-32x5/8" xxxx through a fender washer and then through each hole on the end of the Aero Lock Straps. Position the strap with the male buckle on the right side of the hatch. Fasten a 10-32 Nylock Nut to the end of the xxxx . Repeat on the left side of the hatch without tightening the nuts.
9. Drill a hole in the center-side of the Oval Hatch using a 1/8" drill bit. Orient the hatch so that the hole faces the bow. Insert one end of the Hatch Line through the hole and tie a double overhand knot. Run the other end of the hatch line through the loop in the right side - bow hatch strap - where it connects to the boat. Tie off with a bowline knot.
10. Tighten all four nuts using a Phillips Head screwdriver and 3/8" wrench.
11. Position the cover in place and fasten the straps.
