Before applying the ZOLL OneStep Complete and CPR Resuscitation Electrodes, it is important to properly prepare the patient's skin to ensure good adhesion and optimal performance. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Remove excess chest hair: If there is excessive chest hair, it is recommended to clip it to maximize gel-to-skin contact. Shaving is not recommended as it can leave tiny micro abrasions that may cause discomfort during pacing.
2. Clean and dry the skin: Ensure that the skin is clean and dry under the electrode. Remove any debris, ointments, or skin preps using water (and mild soap if necessary). Wipe off any excess moisture or diaphoresis with a dry cloth.
By following these steps, you can ensure that the patient's skin is properly prepared for electrode application, which will help in achieving good coupling and reducing the risk of arcing and skin burns.
