To properly install the Crosby G-461 Thimble Eye Bundle Clips, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the eye of the sling is in the choked position, wrapped around the live line.
2. Comply with the requirements of ASME B30.9 Slings for choker hitch applications, providing a minimum choke angle of 120 degrees.
3. Before installing the Bundle Clip, apply the initial load by lifting the bundle and clearing the support, creating a tight choke. Repeat this step as necessary until the bundle package is in the most compact position.
4. Keep hands and feet clear from under the load during this process.
5. After the initial loading, install the Bundle Clip by inserting the U-bolt through the Bundle Clip.
6. Properly position the clip base over the U-bolt and install the nuts.
7. Use a torque wrench to tighten the nuts evenly, alternating from one nut to the other until the bundle stops and bottoms out on the clip base. Refer to Table 1 in the manual for the recommended torque value.
8. Before each lift, check to ensure that the choking eye has not slipped from the Bundle Clip. Repeat Step 3 if necessary.
9. When disconnecting, make sure the load is clear of the stable support. Remove the Bundle Clip.
10. Stay clear of the load as the bundle is lowered and the load is removed from the sling.
11. It is recommended to periodically inspect the wire rope sling for wear, abuse, and general adequacy according to good rigging and maintenance practices.
Please note that these instructions are specific to Crosby G-461 Thimble Eye Bundle Clips and should be followed to ensure safe and proper usage.
