To clean your Valhal Outdoor Dutch oven, it is recommended to let it cool down before cleaning it with warm water. Avoid using aggressive cleaning products such as dishwashing detergent, as they can damage the protective layer of the cast iron. Use a normal dishwashing brush or sponge to clean the pan, and avoid using a metal sponge or brush. Cast iron is not suitable for the dishwasher. After cleaning, make sure to dry the Dutch oven thoroughly and store it in a dry place.
For storage, you can put something between the pan and the lid to allow the Dutch oven to "breathe" and prevent it from drying out. This will create an opening between the pan and the lid. Additionally, it is recommended to treat the Dutch oven with a care paste specifically for cast iron to prevent it from drying out. If a care paste is not available, you can use a natural oil or fat. Olive oil is not recommended for very high temperatures.
If rust forms on your Dutch oven, you can use fine steel wool to remove it until you see the bare cast iron again. Wash the Dutch oven thoroughly with warm water and a mild detergent, and then dry it completely. You can then follow the steps mentioned in the manual for renewing the protective layer of the cast iron.
