To mount the Humminbird 1100 Series HD Sonar control head, you have two options: gimbal mounting or in-dash mounting. Here are the step-by-step instructions for each method:
Gimbal Mounting the Control Head:
1. Place the control head into the gimbal bracket, ensuring that the straight side of the gimbal arm is against the back side of the control head.
2. Thread the gimbal xxxx and washer into the housing, tightening it to secure the control head to the mount. Repeat for the other side.
3. Determine the best mounting location by placing the control head in various positions. Consider visibility, tilt range, and ease of installation and removal.
4. Loosen the gimbal knobs and remove the control head from the gimbal bracket.
5. Place the gimbal bracket in the chosen position on the mounting surface and mark the four mounting xxxx locations.
6. Drill the four mounting xxxx holes using a 5/32" drill bit. If the cables must pass through a hole directly beneath the mounting bracket, drill an additional 1" hole centered between the four mounting holes.
7. Place the mounting bracket on the mounting surface, aligning it with the drilled holes. Fill the mounting holes with marine-grade silicone sealant and insert the screws. Hand-tighten only.
8. If the cable pass-through hole is beneath the mounting bracket, install the hole cover after routing all cables. If the cables cannot be routed directly beneath the mounting bracket, install the hole cover before routing the cables.
9. Thread the cables through the opening in the back of the cable collector cover.
10. Proceed to installing the cable collector insert.
In-Dash Mounting the Control Head:
1. Locate a suitable, flat area of the dash to mount the control head, ensuring a depth of at least 4 inches.
2. Tape the paper in-dash mounting template to the desired mounting location.
3. Drill a hole large enough to insert the blade of a reciprocating saw at a location inside the dotted line on the template. Also, drill the four mounting hole locations using a 3/16" drill bit. Carefully cut along the dotted line with the reciprocating saw and remove the template.
4. Insert and tighten the four threaded rods into the threaded inserts on the back of the control head. Peel off the adhesive-backed foam pads and place them on the back of the control head.
5. Insert the control head through the mounting hole from the front side of the dash. Place a washer, lock washer, and wing nut onto each threaded rod and tighten fully.
6. Go to the installation instructions for your transducer and accessories, make the required installations, and run the cables to the control head mounting location.
7. Thread the cables through the opening in the back of the cable collector cover.
8. Proceed to installing the cable collector insert.
Remember to consult the Humminbird 1100 Series HD Sonar Installation Guide for more detailed instructions and specific information on installing the transducer and accessories.
